Guang Ying Shen ~ Still lamenting
Hearing Charon cough and his hoarse voice, Shen looked across the way and found a glass of water sitting on one of the tables. Thankfully, her arm was long enough to reach across and take a hold of the cup, which already had a straw set up in case he woke up.
"Here." Shen offered the cup to him, lowering the straw with her free hand so he could sip at it. "Hopefully this will help your throat."
She listened quietly to what Sen had to say to her, her eyes looking down and off to the side. Although the words he said were quite true, that she had been egged on and goaded by Ouranos into doing something completely stupid, the fact of the matter is was she got careless. If she had just left the gravitational field, then the Irakage would have remained intact. If she had been more careful, then none of this would have happened.
Sighing, Shen eased herself onto the edge of the bed, propping one leg up but keeping her body facing him, so her hand against his cheek wouldn't be at such an awkward angle.
"And you never told me your full name, either." Shen noted, lifting her eyes up to look at him again. She hesitated for a moment, wondering if she should say her true name or the adopted one. Hew as a Yakuza and probably wouldn't think much of her past. But, she didn't want to drag that skeleton out. Not yet, at least. "...Mine is Guang Ying Shen."

Sen - Aahhh, Life's Good
The water was a blessed relief on his sore throat. After he'd drunk nearly half the glass, he set it aside and sighed, leaning back against the pillows. It was so good, to have her near, but he knew she was still blaming herself. You always carried the weight of the world on your shoulders. But I'll be here for you now to help ease that burden. Something I wasn't able to do last time. He smiled at her and lowered her hand from his cheek to his stomach and covered it with both of his, IV's and all.
"Shen...it's beautiful. My full name is Meidono. Meidono Sendou. However, no one calls me Sendou except my grandfather and my mother when she wants to lecture me." He smiled at the mention of his family.
Speaking of, I wonder where they are? I thought I heard mom and grandfather out here. Maybe pop was here too...he stroked his thumb across the back of her hand.
"Sendou, my boy!" Kazuomi came in cheerfully, carrying a white plastic container. "Good to see you're awake. Oh and I see you and the young lady are getting along well. Good, good. Well, I will inform your family that you are awake and leave you two to your catching up." He winked broadly at Shen. "I hope to see you around the family estate more, my dear."
He bustled out and Sen groaned. "Manipulative old bastard..." His tone was fond though and he smiled as he peered at the container. "I smell chocolate."

Guang Ying Shen ~ Did...that just happen...?
Shen looked down at his hands, which held hers so warmly. She wasn't sure what to feel right now; she had never been so close to anyone before in her life. Even in the past, when...well, it didn't matter now. She just felt calm, at ease with herself and the world for the first time in a long while. Sen's presence alone was having that effect on her, just as he did in the past as Charon.
It made her feel like she wasn't always feared or hated.
"Thank you, Sen-dono." Shen replied in a soft voice, looking down at him and meeting his gaze. "I...chose this name for myself when I went to China. I believe it suits me more then my original name did. I--"
She was about to continue when she heard Kazuomi enter into the room, turning her head over her shoulder. Quickly, she lowered her head so her bangs would fall in her face again, down casting her eyes. The table she had placed her glasses on were too far away for her to reach, so she hoped he wouldn't catch a glimpse of her eyes.
However, upon hearing what he had to say in Japanese, Shen looked up and became confused. What was he talking about? Visiting the estate...? That was one of the last things she wanted to do, especially now that she knew Sen was a member of a Yakuza crime syndicate. Visiting the family's estate would only draw more attention to herself, especially considering the Japanese police would know about them or be bought by them...and she didn't feel like being executed.
Once he was gone, Shen looked down at Sen and raised an eyebrow up. "What was he talking about...?"

Meidono Sen - I'm Going to Kill my Grandfather
Sen had been so focused on the cake and the potential satisfying of his sweet tooth that he'd missed completely Shen's discomfort until she spoke. Oh fuck. Sen looked longingly at the cake but decided it could wait. He had to explain his grandfather's eccentricities first. Thanks gramps, I was hoping to be spared this conversation until much, much later.
"My grandfather...is a very traditional kind of man. He has certain ideas about relationships and how things are done. When he said he hoped to see you around the family estate, he was strongly hinting that if we decided to pursue a romantic relationship that he would want me to introduce you to my family at their home as is proper."
What he didn't mention was how rare and novel it was that he brought anyone to the compound. Unlike his brother, who acted as if the family estate was his own personal bragging ground, Sen kept all of his one-night stands to hotels and if he pursued the relationship for longer than a week, they met at the other person's place or in hotels. Sen never brought anyone home to meet his family exactly because he knew his grandfather would act the way he had.
"Also, be warned, my grandfather may play at being a harmless old fool, but he's still sharp as ever. So take anything he says with a grain of salt. I'm..." he didn't want to say 'heir' because that technically wasn't true. "I'm his favorite grandson and so he tends to but into my life more than my older brother's. I think, in some bizarre way, he seems to think that's a way to show that he cares about me."

Guang Ying Shen ~ Oh...Oh.
Upon hearing Sen's very...tactful explanation for Kazuomi's behavior, Shen felt her face turn quite red at the notion. Sure, she was extremely sheltered and had hit puberty while she was incarcerated in the loony bin, but she wasn't a complete idiot when it came to more "adult" matters. The fact that Sen's grandfather was already pushing them in the direction of being romantically involved caused her to become very, very embarrassed rather quickly.
"Dear Buddha..." She muttered, putting her face in her free hand and trying to hide her embarrassment and shame about what just happened. Why did this have to happen?

Meidono Sen - I am REALLY Going to Kill Him
Now, Sen was a ladies' man but even he knew when he'd embarrassed his date. He smiled as comfortingly as he could and reached up to grasp Shen's hands. His shoulders shook and so did his hands but he managed it.
"Don't worry. Like I said, pay no attention to the funny old man who brought me cake. We have all the time in the world now and we can take things as slow as possible. I know I for one would like to get to know you first as Shen. So." He lowered his hands because he couldn't keep them up for long. "Would you be willing to help a poor, injured friend with his cake? I'd be most appreciative."

Guang Ying Shen ~ Sooo going over her head
Shen seemed to calm down when Sen spoke to her, though her cheeks remained somewhat flushed from the whole ordeal. Romance was the last thing on her mind right now, and the fact that Sen wasn't giving into his grandfather's nudging put her more at ease. Though, the notion that he did want to still pursue a relationship, albeit slowly, was totally lost to her.
Lowering her hands, she nodded down at him. "T-thank you, Sen. That does make me feel a little less...uneasy." Turning her head, she spotted the plastic container with cake inside. "I suppose that is fair, as I got you into this mess..." Still taking the blame for things, of course.
Sliding off of the bed, Shen approached the table and opened up the container, revealing chocolate fudge cake, with raspberry jam between the layers and a raspberry-chocolate cream coating on it, dripping down slightly along the sides. Wow, talk about rich food...
Returning to the bed, Shen took a seat besides Sen again and scooted a bit closer towards him. With the fork, she cut a piece off of the edge and spooned it down to him. She was getting the distinct feeling he had a major thing for cake...
"Well...is there anything you would like to know about me, Sen-dono?" She inquired.

Meidono Sen - My Nurse is the Best Ever
His grandfather really knew his cake. Sen's mouth was watering and his blood sugar was crying out for mercy at the sight of that cake. Of course he kept his calm and simply smiled at Shen when she opened the container.
"You really are too good to me Shen, thank you. Especially after being embarrassed like that, my apologies." He accepted the forkful of cake and tried very, very hard to hide how much he enjoyed it.
Concentrate, Sen old man. You've finally got her in a position where she's comfortable and talking to you. Do not get distracted by your dick or by the dessert. Focus. He thought about it, trying to find a general topic that wouldn't cause any unwarranted stress on Shen.
"Well, the basics would be a good way to start. Do you live in Tokyo? When's your birthday? What has your life been like so far in this world?" He kept his voice light and casual. "Tell me only what you're comfortable telling me. Just know that now, as then, I will never judge you, lady. Or think less of you or anything like that. I don't think I ever could."
There we go, hopefully that will help lighten things up a bit and we can start getting to know each other again. His reward was more cake and getting to spend time with a lovely lady acting as his nurse and that was always a plus in his mind.

Guang Ying Shen ~ Getting to know you?
Shen continued to feed Sen his cake, which he was clearly enjoying. She could feel his aura relax considerably. Good, that meant he was on the mend, and being a Guardian also boosted health regeneration as well.
On the topic of her, however, Shen wasn't quite sure what she could say and what she shouldn't. Sure, Sen said he wouldn't judge her for her past or anything - and she believed him - but she didn't talk about her past. To anyone. Even though they were alone for the moment, Buddha knows who would walk in or possibly over-hear their conversation.
The basics, certainly.
"I do reside in Tokyo currently, in the largest Chinese section of the city." She left as to why hanging, though. "I was born December 28th." However, at the notion of explaining her life, Shen's gaze darkened and she looked down at the floor. "My...life has not been an easy one. I feel chained even now, even though their cold embrace is no longer around me." Of course, she decided not to delve any deeper into her past then that.

Meidono Sen - Getting to Know All About You
Now Sen was paying a bit more attention. He'd noted her birthday (he'd find out later what kind of presents she would like) but the mention of her past had him fighting the urge to frown. It really wasn't fair. It seemed that destiny would never let go of its chosen scapegoat for all that went wrong in the world. I still don't see why it was her who had to be persecuted and not the Queen Selenity of that time that imprisoned her. She should have known better than anyone that with great power comes great risk but also discipline. He shrugged that off and managed a smile.
"Then I shall have to do everything in my, rather considerable, power to make sure that from now on your life gets better. It may not be...perfect, but I'll do my best to make you smile." He reached up with a stronger hand (he thanked the sugar rush for the burst of energy) and stroked her cheek. "Which is something I had always dreamed of seeing."
While deep in his gut, Sen knew he was falling hard and fast for Shen, but he wanted it to be more than just their shared past. He wanted it to be because she truly was the companion he'd been looking for all his life. Someone who could tell him he was wrong, who wasn't some shrinking wallflower, someone who could handle that he was a member of one of the biggest yakuza syndicates in Tokyo.
"So, you live here and your birthday is in December. I have a secret for you, I was actually born on October 31st." He chuckled. "My mother always liked to joke that was the source of my rather great love affair with sweets, being born on Halloween."

Guang Ying Shen ~ Dark thoughts return
Shen lifted her head up upon feeling Sen's hand against her cheek. Her face flushed softly - though not nearly as bad as it was before - at his comforting words of promise. Even in the past, Charon wanted to protect her, even though she had no reason to. Why was it that both Charon and Sen wanted to see her happy...?
"Sen-dono...I do not understand. Why do you strive so hard to try and see me happy? Even in the past..." Her voice trailed off. Although she registered his birthday as well, her mind began to dwell on her past, both here and long ago. Shen felt undeserving of such attention and affection, and she was afraid of hurting Sen.
Today was a prime example of her power and anger.
Sighing, Shen closed her eyes. "I am a danger, no matter how I try to tell myself that I am not. Perhaps, they were right in their choice to bind me..."

Meidono Sen - Hey, No Being Sad Now
"No, they were not right. It's as I said in the past, any power is dangerous, whether it be for good or for evil. Take Selenity for example. She wields the most powerful stone in all the galaxy. Because of that, she constantly has enemies seeking to either take it for themselves or destroy it. Her power may bring good, but it also beckons evil towards it just by existing. Your power may bring about destruction but your power doesn't beckon towards evil. It just is. It's a part of the life cycle that people find hard to accept and so they hate and fear it irrationally."
Sen took several more bits of cake because he wanted something sweet to combat the sourness in him. He'd seen it in the past and he'd seen it here. Just because something was good didn't automatically make it infallible. He could sense that Shen carried so much guilt and weight on her shoulders and while he knew it was a part of her, always had been, it frustrated him that she could only see the bad in her life.
"As for why I wanted to see you happy, that should have been rather obvious. I cared about you then and I do now. I care about your happiness." He jabbed his fork in her direction. "You are so caught up in all of the 'evils' in your life that you lose sight of anything that's good. So because I care about you, I'm making it my personal wish, my dream if you will, to make you happy. To remind you that you can and do deserve some goodness in your life. You can't change who and what you are, that's a fact, but you can change how you perceive your life."
He sighed and ate a bit more cake. "Sorry. I don't mean to snap, but it's always bothered me...why should you be so miserable while everyone else is just simply given a happy ending. They haven't earned it. You're the only one who really has..."

Guang Ying Shen ~ Bitterness
Shen looked back down again, keeping her pale eyes downcast. She didn't understand how anyone could think so positively of her, especially not with what she's done. In the past, they kept her contained, her power sealed. All she ever did was bring the Kurogami down, which was destined to happen. But now that she wasn't sealed, so many had died by her hands. Innocent, helpless people; people she cared about.
Although he gave her comforting words and vowed he would do what he could to see her happy, Shen couldn't help but to blame herself for everything. It wasn't fair that she had to live such a cursed life. She had hurt those who mattered most to her before, what was stopping her from doing it again?
Shen unconsciously clutched tightly at the container holding the cake, the plastic easily crunching under her grasp. Her gaze darkened, pursing her lips together.
"You don't know what I've done, Sen-dono." She muttered angrily; not at him, but at herself.

Meidono Sen - Frustration
"Shen." He reached out and took the plastic container from her and set it aside. "Do you really think it matters to me what you've done? I'm the grandson of one of Japan's biggest yakuza families. I was set to become heir until my brother fucked things up for me and I almost killed him in retaliation. Hell, Shen, I killed my first mark when I was thirteen years old."
He was starting to get frustrated and it was showing. He wanted to just shake her out of her stubbornness and depression. We have a new life, another chance, and she's still singing the same old song and dance.
"So don't talk to me about things you've done. I learned that you can't let what you've done in the past prevent you from having a future. Because if you do, you're not living worth shit. You're basically a walking corpse just waiting to return to the ground." Sen's head started to pound and he leaned back against his pillows. "I know nothing I say can make you think any differently. You're so dead set on hating yourself..."
Anything I say she can ignore. Anything I do she can brush off as a fluke. If she's so dead-set on blaming herself and hating herself, can I really reach her? Do I really know what I'm getting into? The whole thing was enough to make him throw up his hands and want to give up, but Meidono Sendou didn't give up. Not when it was something he really wanted.
"Look...I'm...I'm sorry. It's just, I don't care about your past. You've killed people. I've killed people. You're wanted by the government I'm guessing, well so is half my family. The only reason we haven't been shut down is because of my grandfather's smarts. So just...just forget about the past for a while. I know it's hard but you don't have to carry all that guilt. Just put it aside and think about this." He gave her a hard, searching look. "If I really, honestly cared about what you've done, how many supposed innocent lives you've taken, I wouldn't still be trying to reach you or trying to get to know the you hidden behind all this self-hate."

Guang Ying Shen ~ Feeling Lost
Shen lifted her head up, followed by her eyes, meeting Sen's gaze. She looked into those deep, captivating eyes; the same eyes that drew her in another lifetime ago. All that she was now was thanks to the burden of her past. All the fighting, all of the internal struggles with her powers and her anger...she was still the same as the woman who was chained against her will, all for the fact she had a power everyone feared.
Listening to Sen, she remembered what one of the monks at the monastery had told her:
"You would not be given these unique powers if not for a reason. But, your own inner demons must be quelled and you must accept yourself as you are. Just as Buddha resisted the temptations of Mara, so you must resist the temptations of self-doubt and hatred."
Shen looked away from Sen again. "I..." She muttered, heaving a deep and heavy sigh. "I just...don't even know what it's like to be happy. I've spent so much of my life fighting who I am, trying to become like the others...happy, joyous, free...that I do not know who I am anymore. I cannot see past all of the hurt, the pain and the betrayals in my life to see the greener pasture."
She laughed hollowly after this, still keeping her eyes down-cast. "Even the monks knew this and tried to console me. I just...I just don't know how to look past all of the suffering I have endured in my lives..."
