[Aikaterine Pherenike]
[ Counting the red stars and those of plum-color

My hours are married to shadow.
No longer do I listen for the scrape of a keel
On the blank stones of the landing.

[ Catch Me As I Fall ]
[ The Basics ]
Name Meaning: Aikaterine – “Far off”, possibly derived from “Hecate”, a Greek goddess associated with witchcraft, crossroads, tombs, demons, and the underworld. Pherenike – “to bring victory”
Nick Name: None – don’t even try.
Age: 23
Gender: Female
Sexuality: Bisexual
[ Sweet Ruptured Light ]
[ Appearances ]
Hair: Aikaterine’s hair is a pale grayish-lavender color, hip length and massively curly. She doesn’t do much with it apart from parting it at the center and attempting to pin the sections around her face back, preferring to leave it alone else it eat her hair brush. There’s always paint in it, too, something she stopped caring about long ago.
Face & Eyes: Aikaterine’s eyes are almond shaped and evenly spaced, slightly downturned, with long, almost transparent lashes. Her irises are pale blue-grey with a dark ring around the edge of the iris. Her eyebrows are thick and just a shade darker than her hair, with a small line of white running through the end of the left due to an old scar. Her face is heart shaped, with rather dramatic cheekbones, a long nose, and narrow lips.
Body Type: Aikaterine is 5’10”, with narrow hips and a small bust, giving her a rather boyish figure.
Clothing Style: A typical outfit for Aikaterine, regardless of season, includes a 1960’s style scooter dress, solid colored tights, and a pair of mid calf length brown or black motorcycle boots, usually steel toed. For fancy things, like gallery openings, art shows, and formal gatherings, Aikaterine has a collection of suits, dresses, and other couture by her mother, plus a full closet of shoes, but she avoids wearing these as much as possible. For jewelry, she has a simple silver band she wears on her right thumb and three helix piercings in her left ear.
[ Don’t Turn Away ]
[ A Look Deeper ]
Personality:
To start, Aikaterine is a rather spooky person. She has an intense dislike of meaningless chatter and talking in general, and doesn’t have the patience to deal with most people for long periods of time. This can lead to her abruptly walking away mid conversation, staring off into space, or even worse, just glaring silently at the unfortunate person until they become uncomfortable or scared enough to leave her alone. If infuriated enough, she will verbally cut the person down, making them feel as small and wretched as possible before walking away. Much of this comes from being constantly hungry and far more interested in the half seen world of spirits than in the inhabitants of the material world. Also, she’s constantly aware of Hades’ presence and the ensuing snarky comments that the shade makes inside her head.
Aikaterine does, however, have a softer side, albeit one that only appears around her brothers and those she calls friend. She has a dark sense of humor, rather dry and morbid, and enjoys matching wits with others. She’s fond of puzzles and riddles and tends to like being around people who are able to challenge her in those fields, even giving the rare compliment or smile if they give her something new. If they impress her enough, she’ll even cook for them.
With her students, Aikaterine can be rather difficult. She’s short tempered and harsh, and doesn’t quite understand, or care to understand, why she would need to repeat herself to anyone. Her critiques and studio sessions have been described as anywhere from “exhilarating” to “terrifying”. When she paints or sculpts, Aikaterine loses all sense of the material world beyond the canvas or clay, drawing instead on long dormant memories from Hades’ and her own pasts and folk tales remembered from childhood. Interrupting her during one of these periods can be dangerous, as she’ll lash out with whatever she has at hand until she returns to herself.
Strengths: Painting, physical strength, cooking, not easily intimidated
Weaknesses: Acrophobic, insomniac, whiplash mood swings
Dreams: Hades’ dreams have somewhat replaced Aikaterine’s, and what Hades wants is her throne and everything associated with it back, preferably with Pluto’s head tastefully mounted on the wall behind her. Aikaterine would simply be happy to be left alone, living on a large plot of wild land with a studio and all the materials she needs to continue her art.
Fears: Heights, losing her brothers, finding her sister’s ghost
[ Candy Clouds of Lullaby ]
[ Present History ]
Zenovia Pherenike, an obscenely successful fashion designer, had no use for men, and even the idea of a long-term relationship disgusted her. She did, however, enjoy the notion of children, and so through a donor managed to birth a set of quadruplets – two boys and two girls. As they were delivered by cesarean section rather than a natural birth, the children had no set birth order. Instead, Varius, Thracius, Aikaterine, and Zenais grew up with a loose notion of interconnectedness. Dubbed “designer babies in designer clothes”, they were promptly handed off to an army of nannies. They grew up spoiled and wanting for nothing, eventually shipped off to boarding school when their mother decided they were too much of a nuisance.
At the age of seventeen, and after getting expelled six times between the four of them, the quadruplets returned home. Aikaterine, the last to be expelled, was quite happy to be reunited with her siblings and their childhood home. To celebrate, they threw a party. At the last minute, Aikaterine and Zenais were sent to retrieve one last set of lanterns before the midnight soiree began. It was here that Hades manifested herself for the first time. As the two were driving along a narrow gorge, something humanlike appeared on the center line. Zenais swerved to avoid it, but the car flipped, eventually landing at the bottom of a gorge. Aikaterine was thrown from the car, landing twenty feet away and cracking her head open. Before she passed out, she saw the same ghostly figure that had caused the accident touch her sister’s face, look at her, and smile.
Aikaterine woke up in the hospital three months later to find that Zenais had died in the crash. Along with this news came a gnawing hunger just under her breastbone and flashes in the corners of her vision, flashes that eventually developed into fully formed spirits roaming the halls of the hospital. The hunger and visions continued when she returned home two month later, leading her to eventually reach out and touch one of the spirits. Upon contact, though, the spirit screamed and was absorbed through her hand, leaving Aikaterine staring in wonder at the appendage as the hunger abated for the first time in months.
Time passed, and Aikaterine and her brothers left for university. Aikaterine double majored in Studio Art and Art History. Her paintings and sculptures, twisted scenes of battles long past and dark underworlds, interspersed with more traditional works, became a smash hit even before she graduated. After graduation she was asked to exhibit her work by a prestigious Tokyo gallery for six months. The offer also included a position as a visiting artist at a small university near the gallery. Aikaterine, feeling a pull towards the city, accepted the offer and moved into a large loft apartment, in which she continues her work.

Uniform Description:
Headpiece: Hades wears a rather elaborate headpiece, rather like a black iron war crown.
Neck: Hades wears a tall choker composed of segmented cold grey metal. Over this choker goes a smaller ivory black one composed of diamond shaped pieces, each with a small manganese blue gem in the center. The smaller choker can be removed for use as part of her
Macaria’s Blessing.
Collar: Hades’ collar is composed of deep sky blue silk. From the front, it seems to be a typical senshi collar, held in place in the center by the first section of her bodice. The back is much longer, however, coming to a point between her shoulder blades. From there, it is threaded through a large cold grey diamond shaped bead, where it splits into two sections, which are longer than Hades is tall and are gradated, fading from deep sky blue to ivory black. Once the fabric reaches the ground, it loops back up around her hips and under the collar to meet again at the bead. the collar is connected in back to the choker by a row of cold grey diamond shaped studs, reaching from the center of Hades’ neck to the small of her back. Each of the diamond shaped beads has Hades’ symbol etched into it. Two sets of cool grey pauldrons extend from each side of the collar, and join with the bodice, though this cannot be seen.
Bodice: Hade’s outer bodice is composed of sectioned cool grey armor, six horizontal pieces on each side, joined by an five diamond shaped pieces in the center. All pieces seem to be glazed with a manganese blue wash, giving them a slight bluish iridescence. The bottom pieces come to a point over her hips, sticking out slightly. A stylized diamond piece, engraved with her symbol, joins this armor to her collar. This piece received the same glaze as the rest of her armor. Under the armor, she wears a manganese blue sleeveless top made of a heavy material, though this is hardly visible under her armor and collar.
Skirt: Hades’ skirt is composed of two parts – an over skirt and an underskirt. The underskirt is made from a light but protective ivory black material, and comes to several points along the hem, which reaches midway down her thigh. The outer skirt is slightly longer than the one below it and is segmented, made from flexible strips of metal that each come to a point at the bottom. These strips are covered in deep sky blue silk and trimmed in manganese blue. The middle piece is slightly wider and longer than each of the side pieces.
Legs: Hades wears greaves composed of overlapping cool grey diamond shaped pieces that reach from the middle of her foot to her knees. The knee guards are larger than the other diamonds and have a rather nasty spike protruding from each one. Like the rest of her armor, the metal pieces are glazed with a manganese blue wash.
Feet: Hades’ feet are mostly bare, with only faded ivory black ribbons wrapped from her knees down and around the bridge of each foot, leaving the heel and ball bare to allow contact with the ground, which she needs to perform her attacks.
Arms: Hades wears cool grey vambraces, glazed with a manganese blue wash. These extend in diamond shaped sections from the middle of her hands to her elbows, from which a spike protrudes. The vambraces are attached to the same sort of faded ivory black ribbons that are wrapped around her legs, though these wrap from her palms to just above her elbow. A straight piece of metal is also fastened to the underside of each forearm to allow her to block with each arm.
Weapon: Melinoe’s Terror
Named for the chthonic nymph of nightmares and madness, Melinoe’s Terror is a modified bardiche.
The pole is six feet tall, made of black iron, with a small bifork extending from the base. This fork is made of steel reinforced silver and can be used to shatter armor if Hades puts enough force behind it. Carved into the pole are runes of binding and command, which aid Hades in controlling the spirit’s she has stolen during the course of battle.
The blade itself is cleaver like, a little over three feet long, curved, wickedly sharp, and pointed on both ends. Like the pole, it is made of iron with strange runes carved into it, but the sharp edge is loaded with silver, made to cut through spirits as well as flesh. It is connected to the pole at three points – the tip, from which it extends eight inches, and two points in the center of the blade, two inches apart, one foot below the tip. A rather ragged and faded deep sky blue ribbon, just longer than the staff itself, is tied just under the last attachment. The ends of it are shod in silver to add weight. It also looks to have the same runes carved into the blade woven into the fabric, but these have faded enough to be barely visible.
Melinoe’s Terror is extremely heavy, meaning it can be used to smash as well as cut.
Chthonic Scream
Macaria’s Blessing
Spirit Cradle
Battle Style: Hades won’t involve herself in the battle until she feels like doing so. Instead, she will observe from a high point and sweep down onto the field at the right moment. Once on the field, however, she becomes a terror, sweeping through the ranks and enslaving souls. She prefers brute force over special attacks, mostly for the sheer shock she is able to cause by doing so.
She’s very target oriented – once she selects one, she won’t stop until they’re dead. Get in her way and die, enemy or ally.
Warrior Personality: Hades is a very cold warrior, but she has a few strange quirks. She has no empathy for her enemies or allies and will take down anyone who gets in her way, regardless of side. She does, however have a sense of humor while fighting and will comment on things that she thinks are funny. She likes riddles, too. If you can come up with one she hasn’t heard before, she might spare you. Then again, probably not.
Passive Abilities:
Spectral Disturbance: Aikaterine’s presence tends to agitate any spirit within twenty feet of her, usually causing havoc. This is connected to her feelings- the blacker the mood she’s in, the worse the activity gets. She enjoys watching this, but if the spirits irritate her, or if she’s feeling ill or hungry, she’ll eat them.
Ripple Effect: Aikaterine can influence spirits while still inside their bodies. This effect is nowhere near as strong as it would be if the sprit was dead, but she concentrates she can influence moods and thought patterns of a person or small group. This is taxing, so she doesn’t do it often. When she was younger she used to do it subconsciously, and may still do this from time to time. As Hades, this effect is intensified to the point where she is able to temporarily enslave souls of the weakened or weak willed and control them.

It also looks to have the same runes carved into the blade woven into the fabric, but these have faded enough to be barely visible.
Melinoe’s Terror is extremely heavy, meaning it can be used to smash as well as cut.
Chthonic Scream
Sequence: Raising Melinoe’s Terror above her head, Hades lets out a long, drawn out, and incredibly loud shriek. This acts as a summons for the spirits of those she has killed over time, which appear in a writhing shield before her, screaming in fear and agony.- Effect: This is mostly a defensive spell, intended to ward off an attack before it can happen. It mostly appears before Hades, but in the unlikely event she is feeling benevolent, she can cast it in front of someone in her immediate area. The spirits summoned are rather insubstantial, but can distract an enemy before an attack is ready, or if it has been cast, absorb a small portion of it. She has also been known to use this as a distraction, catching an enemy’s attention before she stabs or slashes them. This is the only ability she can perform while not in contact with the ground, though this is weakened when in the air.
Macaria’s Blessing
Sequence: Hades removes the diamond shaped chain from her choker, wrapping it around her hand and wrist as it expands to fit. Once the chain has finished growing, she stands or kneels next to the spirit, depending on its position, and presses the chain to their forehead. The “blessed” spirit bursts into spheres of light, which dissolve into the ground after about a minute.- Effect: Named for the Greek goddess of blessed death, this allows Hades to lay a spirit to rest, never to be summoned or disturbed again. Hade’s despises the very idea of this attack and generally refuses to use it unless forced to.
Spirit Cradle
- Sequence: Hades traces three runes into the ground at her feet – one for summoning, one for binding, and one for protection. She then flips Melinoe’s Terror high into the air and catches it both handed before slamming it base first into the ground. Deep cracks form in the ground, starting at Hades’s feet and racing towards her target. Spirits, given substance by the runes carved into the bardiche, emerge screaming from the cracks and attack the target.
- Effect: If the target is unable to dodge, the spirits will grab hold of them and hold them in place while Hades attacks. It’s relatively easy to dodge if the target sees it coming, but Hades usually prepares it without letting on before the last moment. The spirits can have a nasty draining effect on their victim if the victim has already been weakened or is fatigued.

She does, however have a sense of humor while fighting and will comment on things that she thinks are funny. She likes riddles, too.
