[ Kismet Chauncey ]

[ Catch Me As I Fall ]
[ The Basics ]
Name Meaning: Kismet = fortune, destiny, luck
Nick Name: Kizzy
Age: 22
Gender: Male
Sexuality: Bi-Sexual
[ Sweet Ruptured Light ]
[ Appearances ]
Hair: Kismet has copper brown hair that shines like metal. It is short and sleek all over his head, save for a long trail of hair that protrudes from the back of his scalp. An ode to his late mother, who encouraged him to have long hair if he wished, Kismet maintains this long tail in a ponytail or occasional braid. It extends to his waist.
Face & Eyes: Kismet's face is sharp, with stern cheekbones and a sharp chin. If it were softer, he could be said to have a heart-shaped face, but it is often described as being more like an arrow. His chocolate eyes are almond-shaped and add to his sharp, almost severe look.
Body Type: Kismet's chocolate skin is softly textured and well taken care of. He almost glows, softening his naturally thin body. His joints are knobby and his limbs are spindly.
Clothing Style: He takes advantage of his thin form to wear very sharp and fancy clothes. He loves the feel of a starched dress shirt and accompanies one with a pair of slim jeans that maintain their slimness without causing damage to certain nether regions. He's rather partial to Converse shoes with no favoritism to high- or low-top styles. He owns many in a variety of colors.
Where professional style is concerned, he dons a suit with all the posh of a business executive 20 years his senior. His suits are always pressed, his shoes are always shined, and he is always adorned with cuff links and a tie clip.

[ A Look Deeper ]
Personality: Kismet is a man who does his best to not stand out unnecessarily. He doesn't want most of the attention available because he doesn't deal well with the attention. He just wants to get along with a minimal of fuss. He is patient and one of the most reliable people that someone could know. He couldn't possibly live with the idea of disappointing anyone.
Deep down, in a part of him obscured by his mother's death, is a determined and persistent Kismet who knows what he wants and would do whatever necessary to achieve it. Part of that shines in his duties as a business assistant, but it blinds him to only his duties and puts everything else in his blind spot. Because of his mother's connection to everything else that makes up Kismet's interests, he turns away from them in order to avoid the pain.
Something that has never changed is Kismet's warm, loving heart. In spite of his mother's death, he still has a heart as warm as the sun and as loving as a mother's arms. It is the greatest attribute he gained from his mother and is perhaps the strongest part of his will, next to his severe resentment for his father. He hates no one in the world except for his father, who was absent through his mother's last days and remains absent in Kismet's new life in Japan. He is possessive of anything related to his mother and hordes it away from his father, seeing him as unworthy. He refuses to share anything of his mother, even her memory, with his father.
Strengths: Listening, Being Supportive, Patience, Caring for Others
Weaknesses: Swimming, Splinters, Talking About His Mother, Being the Center of Attention
Dreams: Kismet's dream in life is to honor his mother's memory. He isn't fully sure on how to honor her memory, however.
Fears: Kismet's greatest fear is to fail or abandon those he is meant to serve or protect, stemming from his father's abandonment of he and his mother during her last days.

[ Present History ]
Kismet's mother and father met by chance, and spent three years running into each other by chance before making things official. Kismet came in their first year of marriage. That was the same year Kismet's mother was diagnosed with breast cancer. Chemotherapy put it to rest and the family enjoyed ten years of peace before it returned. This time, she had a mastectomy to remove her right breast. Four years later, her other was removed in yet another relapse. Her next and final relapse came four years later, and a year of pain and chemotherapy ended just days before Kismet's 18th birthday. He celebrated his birthday in a funeral home. He was on a plane a week later to his father's birthplace: Tokyo, Japan.
When asked about his life, Kismet talked about his mother and her struggle as though it were the end-all and be-all. Amongst his mother's relapses and suffering, there were plenty of happiness and activities normal for a young boy. His first half of his life was typical of a growing child. The four years in between his mother's surgeries were full of sports, mainly basketball and soccer. However, after his mother's second surgery, he was more aware of her situation and decided to get involved in activities that would focus more on his parents. He took up music and took great pleasure in playing for his parents. He got very good and spent time every night playing one of his clarinets from his growing collection for his parents.
When his mother relapsed for the last time, he began playing for her at every waking moment that he was available. It distracted her from every pain that she had, from chemotherapy to her increasingly-grim prognosis. He had to stop playing during her last month, though. Everything he played, it made her cry. She wanted him to keep playing regardless, but he refused. He didn't want to see his mom cry. Instead, he began writing for her. He wrote stories, and he wrote music. He read his stories to her, but he never played his music for her. He didn't want her to cry. Her last week was quiet. The only sounds made were the beeping of the machines. Kismet never left her side while she was awake. When she slept, he would take care of his necessities and he would get what sleep he could. When she awoke, instinct would wake him up, too. All the while, his father continued doing what he needed to do. He had to keep working to keep everything else together. He left his wife's last days in the hands of his son.
Now settled in Japan, Kismet wanted nothing more than to go home. He hated being near his father, but was absorbed by his father's job. His father was a manager for the Japanese branch of a technology firm; Kismet became his assistant. It paid well, and enabled him to get VERY far from his father during his leisure time. Kismet performed well those first two years and earned a promotion that took him back to the United States as assistant to the manager of the home branch. It was in this position that Kismet began making a good impression on the boss, Mr. Pietus. The 20-year-old was getting ambitious and wanted to move up again. However, he knew that another promotion would require making a good impression on the future heiress of the company: Caecus Pietus. This proved to be more problematic than he expected. The independent, take-charge Caecus took no notice of a mere assistant. It would be Kismet's luck that Mr. Pietus would acknowledge this, and he made a plan. When Caecus turned 18, she decided to travel to Japan. Mr. Pietus agreed, on the condition that Kismet would accompany her as her escort. This was a deal that neither Kismet nor Caecus would get out of and forced Kismet back to the country where he left behind his loathsome father.
