Name Meaning: "Lapis-colored Rain." This is her assumed name since debuting as a Maiko a year ago.
Nick Name: Ame ; she's still sometimes addressed by her original name, Sayako (or just Saya), by the other members of her house and her mother.
Age: 19
Gender: Female
Sexuality: Lesbian, but she's currently hosting the Narnian tea party!
[ Sweet Ruptured Light ]
[ Appearances ]
Hair: Jet black, Ame's hair falls nearly down to the backs of her knees...not that anyone ever sees it down, that is. It has a gentle wave (and she has to obsessively flat-iron it), all one length and very thick. But, as she is a Maiko, it's almost always up in the elaborate hairstyles they wear. The only time she lets it down is when she has to wash it about once a week, but then she just goes back to the hairdresser to get it put back up. Due to this, she's starting to get a bit of thin spot on the top of her head from the kanzashi, but it's unnoticeable except when she's sleeping.
Face & Eyes: Ame has a heart-shaped face with high, smooth cheekbones. Her nose is small and slight, and her lips are somewhat thin, so she often accentuates them with her makeup. Her eyes are almond-shaped and framed by thick, dark lashes, almost masking her silvery-grey eyes. Ame is somewhat fair, but not to the point of looking sickly.
Body Type: Petite would be the best way to describe Ame. She is very small and slight, standing at 5' even, and has a very willowy form. She has little in the way of curves, though her breasts are about a B-cup size. Most of what she does have vanishes under the layers of kimono, though.
Clothing Style: Very traditional. Given that she is a Maiko and lives in an Okiya, Ame is required to wear traditional Japanese clothing almost all of the time. Not that she's complaining; she's always preferred wearing kimono or yukata over modern clothing anyway. Naturally, when she works, she wears the extremely elaborate kimono Maiko wear. She's gotten used to the weight of it by now.

[ A Look Deeper ]
Personality: On the outside, Ame is very much what everyone expects from a Geisha; she is charming, graceful and astute. She is friendly and a wee bit flirtatious, and carries herself with poise and grace. She bleeds charisma and looks much taller then she is. She is a skilled musician and dancer, and conversationalist; but it is rare that people see the person beyond the elaborate kimono and the white-face makeup.
"Dreamer" is a word best associated with Ame. When she's not out on the street or performing, she's got her head in the clouds and floats through the world like a flower down the river. She's a bit naive at times and tends to space out when she's by herself. She's a big fan of fairy tales and stories, and never quite "out grew" that little girl stage of wanting to be a princess. And hey, being a Geisha is pretty darn close! Sure, she's living her dream now, but she still fantasizes about it from time-to-time.
There is this adorable, child-like enthusiasm about Ame. When she gets excited about something, she gets really excited. Even her usual controlled facade as a Maiko disappears if she gets excited about something, which makes her more endearing to her patrons. But, with that, when she gets upset, you know. She is prone to tears or anger, but is so ridiculously stubborn at times that it's hard to get her to change her mind on something. Thankfully she knows by now to vent her frustrations away from paying clients, as well as her tears. It was a lesson hard-learned.
However, Ame isn't just this sweet little child in an adults body; when she puts her mind to it, she is a very focused and determined young woman. Given her stubborn streak, it's hard for her to give up on something once she's started. This really only shows itself when she's focused on her studies, though has appeared from time-to-time. She graduated top of her class from the specialized school Geisha hopefuls attend, and continues to impress both her Oneesan and Okaasan, as well as patrons. Yet they find it a bit hard to believe someone as childish as she is can be so immensely dedicated; but hey, Ame rolls with it and is glad she is improving herself.
Strengths: Very controlled when she's in public, dancing and singing are her fortes; enthusiastic, easily-excited, dedicated, focused, dreamer.
Weaknesses: Naive, daydreams too much, easily upset, ridiculously stubborn, childish, a bit of a scatter-brain.
Dreams: To become a famous Geisha and become the heiress of her Okiya.
Fears: Tripping on her kimono, fire (she's fine with small flames, but anything bigger then a candle freaks her out), failing her Okaasan/Oneesan in any way. She also has a strange fear of swords that she can't quite explain. It doesn't matter what kind, she's just terrified of them!

[ Present History ]
Born as Koudou Sayako, Ame had a fairly normal childhood. Her father worked hard at his desk job, while her mother is a fairly popular artist. Saya was a pretty girl and fairly popular at school, and did fairly well at it.
From a young age she had boundless energy, so her parents decided to enroll her in dance classes from a young age to drain that access energy. Saya excelled at it and enjoyed it immensely, specializing in ballet. It was there that she discovered the joy of princesses and stories, quickly becoming enamored in them a bit more then most girls at her young age.
Of course, her father thought it was a phase, as he wanted his daughter to grow up to be a productive member of society.
It wasn't until Saya was 8 that her life took a drastic turn. Her family took a trip down to Kyoto and she got a glimpse of a mysterious woman wearing an elaborate kimono and white face makeup. She knew very little about Geisha, and was enthralled. The thrall only got worse when her family went to a stage show where she saw Geisha performing on stage, and she became hooked.
Saya began to read up and research on Geisha from then on, watching all sorts of movies, specials and reading books about them. Her father wasn't pleased by this turn of events, but her mother encouraged her and said it would be best to get it out of her system now before it permanently made a home there. Her father agreed to it, albeit begrudgingly.
It didn't.
When she turned 13, Saya decided she was going to quit middle school and enroll in the specialized school for Geisha. Her father was absolutely livid about this, and denied it up and down. Saya was heart broken, but was adamant on this. When she turned 14, she disobeyed her father's orders and left anyway, enrolling with her mother's permission. It wasn't long until she was moved out of her home and into an Okiya in Kagurazaka, Tokyo...all without telling her father what she was planning.
Saya's father was furious and tried to pry her out of the Okiya by force, but the other Geisha and the ruler of the building - a former-Geisha named Awasuki who wasn't one to be trifled with - promptly kicked him out. Saya was thankful to her new Okaasan for saving her and the life she wanted to live, and vowed she would never let Awasuki down.
This formed a permanent rift between Saya's two parents, and the two divorced less then a year later (though Saya's mother is thankful for it). Saya hardly ever hears from her father, just receiving a letter and a sometimes a phone call on her birthday and Christmas. Her mother, however, has lunch with her every week, and has remained supportive and encouraging of Saya's choice.
At the age of 16 Saya caught the eye of a popular Geisha known as Mameruri, who makes enough money to live on her own in the Hanamachi. She soon took Saya under her wing and became her Oneesan, and has high hopes for her. Her last student ran off with a man before she even became a Maiko, so Saya hopes not to disappoint her new Oneesan, whom she has taken a shine to already.
Saya continued to impress and debuted as a Maiko a little over a year ago, just a week after turning 18. Mameruri chose the name Ameruri for her, and she is already turning heads where she goes. Her mother could not be more proud of her, and the newly-dubbed Ame loves her job more then anything in the world, and wouldn't do anything else. She hopes to impress her Oneesan and Okaasan and do them proud.
